Illia Ovcharenko's Honens performances reviewed in International Piano
Monique de St Croix

In the December 2022 issue of International Piano Magazine, Stephen Wigles reviews the performances of this year's Honens Competition winner Illia Ovcharenko:

[...] His Tchaikovsky Concerto No 1 was among the finest I have heard in the last 20 years – a list that includes the likes of Nikolai Lugansky, Evgeny Kissin, Yuja Wang and Daniil Trifonov. Ovcharenko was able to emphasise details that often go unnoticed or neglected. The piano’s opening D-flat major chords were majestic, not hammered, and the first movement’s extended cadenza was moonlit and poetic.

[...] The finale was heart-piercing in its eloquence.

[..] It was clear that Ovcharenko was not merely comfortable with audiences but also loved playing for them.

[...] Illia Ovcharenko now has everything he needs for a long and successful life as a pianist.
